Majadahonda has approved a 10% discount on the Urban Waste Fee for single-parent families in the municipality, as reported by the city council in a statement.

With this initiative, which will come into effect in 2026, Majadahonda joins other Spanish cities such as Vitoria (Álava) and Burriana (Castellón) that have approved similar measures.

Majadahonda promotes a new package of tax breaks

With this discount, which is part of the new package recently approved within the framework of the Tax Ordinance for Waste Fees, the city council acknowledges the challenges that single-parent families face, equating them, in terms of tax benefits, to large families, which traditionally enjoy greater regulatory recognition.

The implementation of this discount coincides with the entry into force of Law 7/2022 on waste management, which required all Spanish municipalities to establish a specific fee for urban waste management by April 2025.

«The Majadahonda City Council, with its mayor, Lola Moreno, at the helm, has decided to turn this imposition into an opportunity to introduce greater socio-economic criteria into municipal taxation and advance the tax recognition of single-parent families,» the council stated.

The discount will only apply to the main residence of the benefiting families, requiring them to be duly registered in the municipality. This condition aims to ensure that the tax benefit is effectively directed to the stable residents of Majadahonda.

The 10% discount on the Waste Fee of Majadahonda for single-parent families will come into effect on January 1, 2026.
